The ECLIPSE Lab website at pelzlab.science is operated by the ECLIPSE Lab group at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), Germany. We are committed to protecting your personal data and to being transparent about how we collect and use information from visitors to this website.

What personal data do we collect?

1. Website analytics

We use Google Analytics (anonymised) to understand aggregate traffic patterns on our website. This collects:

  • Pages visited and approximate time on pages
  • General geographic location (country/region level, not precise)
  • Browser type and device category (desktop/mobile)

We do not collect your IP address in full. Google Analytics is configured with IP anonymisation (anonymize_ip) enabled. This data cannot be used to identify you personally.

2. Contact enquiries

If you contact us via the form on our Contact page or by email, we collect the information you voluntarily provide (such as your name, affiliation, and email address). This data is used solely to respond to your enquiry and is not shared with third parties beyond our email hosting provider.

3. Embedded content from third-party services

Our website may include embedded content from external platforms such as:

  • YouTube (videos)
  • Twitter / X (social posts)
  • arXiv (academic preprints)

These services may set their own cookies and collect data according to their own privacy policies. We have no control over their data practices.

  • FAU IT Services: Website hosting and email are provided by FAU’s IT infrastructure, which operates under FAU’s institutional data protection policies.
  • Email hosting: If you contact us, your message is processed by our email provider in accordance with standard institutional data protection agreements.

How long do we retain your data?

  • Analytics data: Retained by Google for 26 months in aggregate form.
  • Contact enquiries: Retained for as long as necessary to respond to your enquiry and up to 2 years thereafter for follow-up purposes.
  • Cookies: As specified in the cookie table above.

What rights do you have?

Under the GDPR (Articles 15–21), you have the right to:
